Nahan,Himachel Pradesh india

Nahan is set at an altitude of 932 m and this results in a pleasant weather all through the year. Nahan is a well laid out town with good, clean roads and pathways. Many tourists make this hillstation the base for visiting the nearby spiritual towns of Renuka, Paonta Sahib and the Trilokpur Temples.
There is a man made tank in the middle of the town named Rani Tal which dates back from the days of its founding rulers.

Events


Bawan Dwadashi Festival held every year in September is a famous festival of Nahan. Fifty two idols of the local Gods are carried in possession to Jagannath Temple where they are floated ceremoniously in a pool and worship is offered. ''Gugga Peer Fair is another well-known festival that is
celebrated in Nahan to mark the honour of Gogaji also known as Gugga, a folk deity of Rajasthan.

Activities


Nahan is a laid back town and most of the tourists visit just to get away from the everyday grind of the big cities. You can go for some easy walks, especially in the evening, through Villa Round, Military Round and Hospital Round. The Mall, with its variety of gift and souvenir shops is also a
prime draw.

Sights


The little town, Nahan has gardens, temples and three popular walking circuits- Villa Round, Military Round and Hospital Round. The Chaugan, a green maiden, is at the heart of the town. Nahan’s royal affiliations and the remains of its old capital, Sirmuri Tal,
are to be seen in the sculpture that has been preserved at the Circuit House. Another scenic location is the Pakka Talaab with a fountain and a garden adding to its charm. Some of the famous temples include Miyan Mandir, Nainidhar Shiv Mandir, Kalisthan Temple and Jagannath Temple.

How to get there by Air

If your time is at a premium, than take a flight to Chandigarh (40 minutes) and drive for 2 hours to reach Nahan.

How to get there by Rail

You can also take a train to Chandigarh (4 hours) and drive the rest of the way (2 hours).

How to get there by Bus

Take NH1 to Chandigarh and drive on state highways for another 90 km. Journey time is 7 hours.

Best time to Visit

Nahan has pleasant weather and although it gets cold in the winters it remains a year-round destination.

Accommodation is not much of a problem since it is not half as crowded as some of the other hillstations. You can stay at the Hotels in Nahan Grand View, Hotel Yamuna, Keshav Guest House and Black Mango. For those traveling with limited resources, there is the PWD Rest House and the Circuit House as well.

Suketi Fossil Park is at a distance of 21 kms from Nahan and is unique due to the fact that the park was built in the exact place where fossils of prehistoric animals were found. It is located at the banks of the Markanda River and is the first of its kind in Asia. You can visit the canning factory
and fruit orchards just 20 km from Nahan at Dhaula Kuan and a Devi temple stands as a testimony to the victory of Raja Jagat Singh over Rohillas attack.
